The Radio
USB Charger

Overview
The Radio USB Charger creates a portable charging scenario for radios that normally depend on a dedicated dock. The compact adapter enables charging through USB-C, allowing the radio to be powered in a wider range of locations.

Project Direction
The one-week project focused on translating an existing dock-charging workflow into a compact accessory that could travel with the radio.

Ideation
Early concepts explored how the charger could wrap around the radio battery, expose the required interfaces and remain visually compact while attached.

Dimensional Integration
The existing radio was modelled dimensionally so the adapter could be developed around its real proportions and attachment points.

Electronics Collaboration
PCB dimensions were defined together with the electronics team. The board integrates a USB-C input, a triple pogo-pin connection and a feedback light within the compact enclosure.

Support Geometry
Angled surfaces on the adapter allow the radio to remain upright while the charging equipment is attached.

Prototype
The physical prototype demonstrates how the compact charger attaches to the existing radio battery and supports both horizontal and upright charging positions.
